Brother Hansen had a very busy campus life while at the University of Arizona. Besides serving on the Cabinet of Upsilon Alpha, he played on the University of Arizona baseball and basketball teams. He was the team captain on the basketball team and pitched for the baseball team. Other activities while at the U of A included being a member of the Lettermen club. After graduation brother Hansen was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent three years in the Phillies organization and then returned to the U of A to earn his Masters in Educational Administration. While earning his Masters degree he coached the freshman basketball team and lectured in the department of Physical Education.
In 1973 brother Hansen started his career in the Insurance field. Brother Hansen worked as an associate in various companies for the next six years and started his own company in 1979; Robert L. Hansen and Associates.
Brother Hansen served the Tucson community in various and numerous ways. He served as President of the LaFrontera Center, Inc., Chairman of the Ott and Northwest YMCA’s, member of the Tucson Conquestadores, Centurians of St. Mary’s Hospital, University of Arizona Foundation, and the Captains Club at the U of A, to name a few. Brother Hansen also served his church as a member of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Board of Trustees.
Brother Hansen was also very active in his professional life. He served as a member of the American Society of CLU & ChFC, National Association of Life Underwriters and The National Association of Health Underwriters.
Brother Hansen always stressed brotherhood and relationships as a cornerstone for his ties to Upsilon Alpha. His brother Jim was also a Fiji. Brother Hansen proved that fraternity is “NOT FOR COLLEGE DAYS ALONE” by serving as Purple Legionnaire in 1978. Brother Hansen was mighty proud to be a FIJI!
Brother Hansen is survived by his wife Ardith, sons Brian and Craig and grandchildren Jayden, Macy and Kaiya.
